Honoring the Life and Legacy of
Cathryn “Cathie” S. Robertson
Obituary
CATHRYN S. ROBERTSON
1946-2023
Cathie Robertson, beloved wife for 53 years of Peter Robertson, passed away on May 16th after a prolonged illness. In addition to her husband, she leaves her dear brother Gordon Seibert of Holladay, Utah, numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, in-laws, many friends, and her dog Leo. Cathie was predeceased by her parents, Si and Ginny Seibert, and by her brother, Jim Seibert.
Cathie grew up in Grosse Pointe, Michigan and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in history from Michigan State University. After working in child care for a number of years, she obtained a master’s degree from Wheelock College.
Cathie spent more than 30 years working as a teacher, co-director, and director of the Devotion Primary Extended Day Program, a recreationally focused after-school program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade at the former Edward Devotion School (now called the Florida Ruffin Ridley School), a public K-8 school in Brookline, MA. The work enthralled her, allowing her to interact with more than 100 bright and engaging children and to lead and mentor a group of highly talented and dedicated staff members. She made a number of life-long friends among the after-school teachers and the school personnel.
Cathie was an adventurous and inveterate traveler and loved the couple’s trips to Peru, Mexico, Belize, Italy, Guatemala, Peru, the Yucatan, and numerous Caribbean islands, among other places. In the Yucatan and Guatemala, she was always willing to climb to the top of the highest temples, inching up and down the dangerously steep steps (now closed off to climbing due to people falling to their deaths). On Cathie and Peter’s numerous trips to Belize for snorkeling, she befriended a snorkel guide at their favorite island resort, who showed her how to be an excellent spotter and identifier of reef fish. Cathie and Peter also traveled regularly to Italy, spending much of their time in Tuscany. There, she became a good friend of the owner of a very large villa in the Tuscan countryside.
Throughout her life, Cathie was a collector of many things. She started with Christmas ornaments, which she acquired on trips to South and Central America, Europe, and at artisan shows around New England. All are carefully stored in labeled boxes. Cathie loved collecting sharks’ teeth along the beaches of the west coast of Florida, as well as sea shells she found in Florida and the Caribbean. That was also true with the sand from beaches everywhere she and Peter traveled. Once when returning from Florida, TSA stopped her to inspect the sand she had in her carryon bag. Cathie also collected large rocks from beaches in Massachusetts and Rhode Island for her rock garden, which were used to surround her magnificent collection of hosta plants. She spent hours each day during the summer caring for her hostas and the yard.
After retiring, Cathie became an even more serious practitioner of yoga and enjoyed going on yoga retreats for many years to Jamaica with her favorite niece.

On Grief:
[Y]ou realize that grief is perhaps the last and final translation of love. And I think, you know, this is the last act of loving someone. And you realize that it will never end. You get to do this to translate this last act of love for the rest of your life. And so, you know, it’s – really, her absence is felt every day.

Dear Peter,
What a wonderful and meaningful way to pay tribute to Cathie’s life. She had a lot of spunk and we will miss her. She was a beloved neighbor who we treasured given our unlikely friendship thanks to our pets.
Your friends and neighbors, Jerry and Mary
Peter – thank you for allowing me to share in this beautiful memorial service. As Cathie’s much younger cousin, I knew her most when we were young. The miles separated us for most of our adult life and I knew her most through Carole and Elise. I send you love and prayers and know that she shared a wonderful life with you and the dogs. Love you.
Peter –
Thank you for sharing this wonderful celebration of Cathie, You and Cathie are such an important part of all our lives and our Auburndale neighborhood. We miss our daily chats with Cathie and are so grateful for your kindness and friendship.
Your friends,
Marjorie, Emma, Maeve, Ned & Ann
Dear Peter,
Thank you for providing us with this wonderful tribute to Cathie. She was such a special person to so many.
Working with Cathie for 19 years of my life, she was a mentor and an inspiration, It was wonderful to hear all these memories and stories about her, and how she always made an impact in someone’s life. Thank you.
We will always love and cherish our memories of Cathie and our times with both Cathie and Peter.
Fond farewell to my Tri Delta sister. You are a remarkable human being.
Cathie shaped me into the educator that I am today. I remember when I had my interview at extended day she gave me a tour of the space and said “I walk fast and it’s fast paced here so you need to keep up!”. I knew from that moment it was the place for me. She was incredibly generous, understanding, and loved her staff and students tremendously. I love you and miss you Cathie.
So sad, such a great person.
Carhie was a force to be reckoned with… tiny body, massive impact. She was mindful (before it was a thing), deliberate, generous, considerate, supportive and I loved her sense of humor. Best mentor a person could wish for. I miss her tremendously just knowing she’s no longer on this planet. Hugs n kisses, Cathie
Cathie was a special human. So giving, and so honest. I loved her fierce and truthful, loving way. She was my yoga student for over a decade, and she loved it, but also was very clear about what she was NOT going to do in a yoga class. I loved that. She taught me a lot about how to be practical, to relax, and to have fun. When I moved into a new house in 2015, she brought me Hostas from her garden. A few years later, she gave me a huge box of Christmas ornaments which now adorn our tree each year and I can remember Cathie. She was such a generous soul, and I will miss her
I will never forget the fun times spent with Cathie when you came to visit us in San Diego. She was a ball of energy that never stopped, and it was infectious! She was a great storyteller and I loved hearing about your travels. Her instant willingness to help was so appreciated when I had bad news while visiting Boston. A force to be reckoned with and a kind and thoughtful person. Peter, we’re all here to support you. Much love always.
Never did I ever leave Cathie and Peter’s house without a snack bag in hand for my road trip home. She fed me, made me laugh, entertained and taught me. Kept me hydrated, too! She was a person who sincerely cared for her friends and shared her love with us. And gifted each of us in private ways, too. Cathie added sparkle to my life and I’m delighted to have the memories I do.
Peter – Carolyn & I would like to leave you this thought- “those we love never truly leave us”. We sent our love and support … C & J
Cathie was a truly unique person, and is sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
